Doing What is Right

"Fireproof", a movie that will debut this week, comes to us from the wonderful people who produced "Flywheel" & "Facing the Giants." The movie is about a fire fighter who is a hero in his community but a real "jerk" in his home. The movie trailer says it all when one of his buddies conveys that he is willing to go into a burning building to save the lives of strangers but does nothing while his marriage is burning to the ground. Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains, Left Behind) stars in this action-drama.

In a recent interview Cameron stated that during a kissing scene that he is not kissing his co-star but actually kissing his wife. Through "movie magic" Cameron's real wife is dressed as his movie wife and the scene is shot in silhouette. He said that in the movie he and his wife are honoring their wedding vows behind the scenes.

I'm sure there are people out there who think this is ridiculous, but Cameron - a devout Christian - believes it's the right thing to do. He has chosen to honor his commitment to his wife by not kissing anyone other than her. I don't know about you, but I'm glad to hear of Christians who do what they believe is right.

In a bold move yesterday John McCain, Republican Presidential Nominee, suspended his campaign to go to Washington to provide leadership over this bail-out proposal in Congress.

Today you will hear a lot of political pundits out there who will say this is strictly political. But I truly believe that McCain does what he says. His campaign slogan is "Country First" - today he puts his country first by trying to get something done in Washington.

I'm so glad to see someone in Washington act as though they work for the American people. Far too often we hear these people say that they are on our side but never see any results once they make it to Washington. This move should put everyone in Congress on notice: We elected you and you work for us!

Regardless of your political persuasion - John McCain has risked his run for the White House to do what is right. He should be commended rather than criticized.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Every day we are faced with decisions...how to respond in certain situations, when to speak and keep silent, whether or not we are going to share the gospel with someone...what will we do? Will we do what is right and honor our commitment to God? Or will we shrink away from those things that seem to be unpopular or polarizing? Stand up believer for what you think is right.

I'm impressed with McCain's decision to suspend his campaign and return to Washington. I think it shows some real leadership and concern for the nation. Bill Clinton even said (you may want to brace yourself) that McCain acted in "good faith" not as a political sideshow. Who knew that he had a bi-partisan bone in his body?

Everyone should go see Fireproof. We always complain there aren't enough Christian/Family Values movies out there and we need to support the ones that do make it to the big screen. Maybe they'll want to make more if they see there's a big enough market!

It was very encouraging to see Senator McCain step up and make a difficult decision. However if you follow many of the blogs in local newspapers across the state of Virginia and the National news blogs, there are a multitude which completely politicized this bold move. It is incredibly unfortunate to see that partisan politics has blinded many bright individuals in our great nation. With that said it is now more important than ever that we as Christians rely on the word of God to direct how we elect those who will govern us. We cannot allow a party to become greater than our faith, that unfortunately appears to be a major problem in our society at large.
